Occupational therapists use social stories as a learning tool to increase appropriate behaviors and decrease challenging behaviors in children with autism. Social stories are also used to help children understand abstract concepts, overcome fears, and establish healthy behaviors. Social stories should be individualized based on the child’s abilities, attention span, learning style and interests. Occupational therapists who serve children with autism may benefit from using mobile apps to diversify learning and create a more accessible teaching environment. Mobile applications (apps) such as Glide can be used to create interactive and dynamic social story experiences. This presentation will demonstrate how to use the Glide app to create social stories for children with autism.
